I was calling Mike Deal on TRailer parts - TLR by Morco ( now run by Thibert ) --on left & right wheel cylinders # 5040055 & 5040065 from a sales that D&T had but could source as CARQUEST didn't stock -- He said - was I following up on the feedback sent in from Pete's by Abe .... doh ... no I was looking at a D&T invoice

Anyways - long story made short --he had added and I will set levels for al three stores. Feedback works when it gets to Mike Deal for product levels -- keep the feedback ( even when we have to use the ugly OLD system while we wait and wait for Toronto to .... well ...we waited so long ...we forgot what we are waiting on ...

CQ University - update

Let me know if you see any GOOD courses on this site --I just did the battery one quickly -- what a disappointment. Of course I could be prejudice sine I FAILED getting only 9 out of 10 (I was in a hurry - clicked 'all of the above ONCE too often ).

Once we see a course that explains BCI group sizes, sulphation, key off voltage drain, CA vs CCA, etc etc -- let me know

We can skim but will have to wait for yet another year for effective internet training ...

CARQUEST University 2009 version

If you search on this BLOG ( upper left hand box ) for UNIVERSITY you will see posts that go back to 2006 on CQ-U. This site seems to change URL's like you & I change socks --so to have the most up to date info I added a Plaxo entry ( www.carquest.com/learning ) and your store manager has the user name & password. We still feel that new staff should have a log-in all their won -- we are working on this but Raleigh seems more concerned with keeping the staff users up to date rather than the amount of face time new users actually spend using it ... can you spell IMPASS ?? This is not the first time we have requested additional user log-in's -- but -- oh well ... we can keep trying.

new sku's in FLR

It seems we missed getting the NEW SUB-LINES for FLR in late 2008 ... and we are now just catching the mistake. Part of the reason is some parts where in as sub line 0 by mistake. We think we have the correction well under way to fix

-added the missing sub lines
-requested the missing billings schedule data we updated (it was missed as the sub lines were missing ( a catch-22))

we are still missing a LOT of parts ( for example 0200 is a KIT --we do NOT have the replacement parts for the kit -- we have asked Doug McIntosh to help fix (yet again). These parts are all FMSI parts --and slowly we are getting CARQUEST to expand the line so we can remove the burden of maintaining the X line data. If CARQUEST only knew how easy they could make it for jobbers with the FULL data in the ADIS computer for lines like FMSI .... oh well ...one can dream

We are in the process of updating out OUTSIDE purchases stamp and Rhonda has some test STICKERS to use so we can ALL: evaluate the data requested and the layout.

Fuel Filler Necks - available

Spectra Premium has fuel filler necks and CARQUEST has finally added them as stocking to the warehouse. You will notice that our Parts Source CD data still shows them as NON-Stocking but Peter McNally assures me that they are and our ned CD will show the updated change

After an initial misunderstanding we believe all e-cat data shows properly-- now go sell. A few of the most popular sku's have been added for all three stores

WIX interchange - follow up

To al who helped in pushing the issue of missing data on interchange --Brian Wiggs wrote me saying that WIX has sent an updated interchange file to Activant. I am note sure how long this takes for an interchange file - but might have to assume a minimum of 60 days -- hang in there ... and the faster we spot the problem the faster we can get it fixed

2009 Dorman Flyer - Part B

DORMAN Flyer - banned in Canada ? part A

Peter McNally has banned the Dorman flyer in Canada - oh boy - what a bone head move. We have totally supported this flyer for a couple of years and find it really grows our business. Oh - sure - there are some catagories that we do NOT support like Control Arms & TPS & Harmonic Balancers - as we feel we have a better source -- but the rest of the flyer is GREAT and REALLY helps us tell the story to our shops that we have MORE & MORE & MORE OEM type parts all the time --calll us -- we ahve it or can get it.

This lack of support is ONLY a Canada issue - Raleigh fully supports the flyer. In fact there are 6200 flyers in Toronto --we are trying to get a bunch as I write this.

Smart Car Oil

The Valvoline 505682 5w40 oil that we stock for VW and Jeep Diesel is also the proper oil for Smart Cars (diesel). The Jeep is originally listed as 5w30 but Chrysler has subbed it to 5w40.

Product Info sheets

Managers for all stores are going to have to RE-THINK how they handle the Product Info sheets on the CQ-LINK - we are seeing more of these and we need to think how we get the proper staff to make sure they have read these?

We hope these will continue - as we need the product knowledge .... so how do we make sure the staff read them ... on LOW TECH solution I have used ( years and years ago ) is a CLIP BOARD and set the staff numbers on each page --and have staff INITIAL as they read. Keep the clip board in a central spot and make sure you post something on a REGULAR ( err ..daily ...?) basis ont he board so staff have a reason to get into the habit of reading.

Or a higher tech way would be forward as an attachment on their e-mail ....

Managers choice -- but something needs to be done --- and remember -- you as the store manager are expected to review the product and make sure you have set the stock level as required ... your notes on wht you ahev done will be most helpful to any staff reading the communication.

I just happen to check to see if USA is missing it as well -- of course not --they have it !!! -- just us Cdn's who have to wait for the slow process ....

E-cat is showing 85516 -- will make sure Brian Wiggs can have a look at what is right. Matt says there is a split date --before uses 85516 and after the one that Canada lacks ... hmm ...

Missing Images -- sometimes a BUG

When you see a LINK for images and you get this ( the BLUE IMAGE with CARQUEST LOGO and a tall skinny # 1 on it ) --it is a BUG and that part number should be reported to the help desk --to make things easier you could e-mail me and I will forward. You should NOT get a screen that looks like this with the CARQUEST name and indications that a picture was available but not shown when you click on it....


HOWEVER ... the 2nd image from ACTIVANT is NOT A BUG ( image has a red # 2 on it ) when they do not have images .... if an image is NOT available thru CARQUEST the system will look to see if Activant has the Image ( a new feature I think )

CARQUEST Hats

Some things CARQUEST does very well - and then there are the simple things --that they drop the ball on --like keeping us informed on what is the part # on promotional hats --and keeping the hats in stock in Toronto. They are inbetween suppliers and hats will be in short supply.

The all BLUE hat is SPE 765 11 12 - but they are out of stock as I write this -- but - gee they have some of the OLD # 765 112 that I ordered for all stores (just one case - if you want more --see your store manager and order on a separate invoice to make it easier to claim ad co-op - tag a note on the invoice so Rhonda knows to claim

Another hat (I have a sample left in my office) is blue from and cashmere (light beige) rear panels for 50 cents more - that part # is SPE 765 11 13 --I placed an order for a case of each with Angela -who is transferring some from St John ....
