Electronic Stability Control

two flyers that Auto Sense notified us on-- your store manager has links to the full sized version. Click on the image to enlarge -- interesting that Electronic Stability Control ( ESC ) has gone from 29% in 2005 to 100% in 2012 model year light duty vehicles ...

Whats new in T&E flyer - Tarps -

Looking thru the Tool & Equipment flyer that starts tomorrow ( Sept 1 ). Have written Toronto to ensure they do NOT FORGET to update prices on sale items - they would normally do this a week in advance but ... there is some turmoil there - and we didn't want it to fall thru the cracks.

Noticed Tarps - for years we have had a TERRIBLE price on tarps - way over priced for the market ... well guess what --= we still suck ...

To make it easier - we have LINKED using ALTERNATES the 4 ( out of 6 ) sku's that exactly match - that should be a good enough reminder that you need to look at Erikson for Tarps ( click here for their web site )

Line XAS - 447-57006 is a sample part - try the links -- the upper right & lower right part int he image didn't link .... AS may not carry the 20x40 ( but can get it special order ) and the 10x20 is a 16x20 in Erikson.

PLEASEZZE .... send me a note when you are embarrassed by the poor value we offer our customers - we can CHANGE IT -- we MUST CHANGE IT if you want to survive for another 100 years ( D&T is coming up to their 100th anniversary soon ..... )

Petes Paint adding BDO -- dropping XRA

Just an FYI -- Petes Paint is dropping XRA and adding BDO. They say they have done the comparisons and customer support is good.

On a side note Jen at Auto Barn noticed that XRA data (that we 'borrow' from Foster) is missing on the 2001 Chev Monte Carlo SS ( but it's sister 2001 Chev Impala 3.8 shows the XRA ) ... my suggestion to her -- drop the XRA sku and stock the BDO sku ( 55034 )

E-Cat -- the journey has just started ...

With the recent change to add WPC ( Worldpac ) to the front page --a LOT of funny questions will now pop up.

Background - remember if you select Worldpac from ALL LINES you will get Activant data and the 2nd series of part numbers that WPC uses .... We use the 'other series' as the Activant data is the main set of part #'s - but was TOO LONG to use in J-Con and that issue rolled into Exploris ... hope I made that clear.

I have seen several 'questionable' things ...but then we are only on day 1 of the change and have requested ALL STAFF to gather their opinions and facts and lets discuss at staff meeting and make a decision in 30 days on the pro's and con's ...

Points-
-NOT ALL DATA seems to show on our primary page for WPC -- if in doubt - go to Speeddial and double check. Want proof - 2008 Honda Odyssey Outer Tie Rod End ... not show any for WPC in primary page but shows when you select ALL LINES and get the 'other' series ( remember reading about this issue above ?? ) and you will find options .... see image
-watch for two options in WPC when CQ only shows 1 part --I have seen that a couple of times so far.

Thank you Chuck Murray .... keep on asking for Improvements

We had asked for WPC to be on our primary page -- and declined ... we had all but given up ( for now ) and along comes a note from a Jobber I knew on the original Exploris committee mentioning that he just had WPC added to his Primary page -- THANK YOU chuck for mentioning this ....

We have ( courtesy of Neil ) set WPC to the bottom of the listings - and look for this to really pull some EXTRA SALES that we are missing when our WEB-LINK accounts do NOT see it on the e-cat ... and they ordered from someone else ... now I listings will be that mush more complete ... example is 2000 Volvo S-40 timing parts - normally an ugly listing ....

Will ask your opinions ( now - use the comment section ) and at Sept staff meeting,

Ford Fuel Pump Driver -- wow wee

Still awaiting CARQUEST to ADD DOR-590-001 - but Auto Sense has 11 on order due in Mid Sept ( so says their data )

Greg G says this is a VERY POPULAR item - due to corrosion ... he has sold several from the Ford dealer --- fits F150 ( 2004-2008 ) and Explorer ( 2007-2010 ) ... boy --do we need more parts like this ....

Recall on 84047 and R84047 Toyota Filters

There is a recall on CFI 84047 and RFI R84047 ( see CQ-Link for details ) and the replacement stock may take 2-3 weeks ....

In the mean time you may want to order XLF P967 from Auto Sense ... I have linked the parts ...after this is over you can remove the link if you like.

Replaced by -- data available

Just did an updated data dump for all parts for all stores ... first thing was a sort for anything with a REPLACED BY data ... 7% or approx 24,000 parts have a replaced by data in our 3 stores -- and we have 280 parts in 3 stores with stock.

Here are some fact & quick observations
-the DSL Fenco CV shaft data is all set
-a bunch of CHT shows the new TLS replaced by - in hand tools - anyone seen and TLS come in - let me know
-VT is replaced by TOW -- Curt Trailer hitch ( click here for web site link) - sample part was 1 7/8" ball is 16% less $$
-new part numbers in PLA Plasti-Kote -- eg series 367 Glass White is replaced by 21900 -- had to ask Jake - this is Rust Not paint series ( we have great descriptions-don't we ( NOT )
-Rislone is dropped in NRT and replaced by BAR line --a huge price drop on BAR 34-100
-a lot of CBC battery chargers being replaced by who different series of part # --unsure but might assume the supplier has changed --any details - let us all know ... since CQ sure doesn't tell us squat.
-added TOW and TLS to the Google Doc Count Cycle list - made reference to older lines being replaced (hint to other partners - would appreciate if you beat me to doing this in future )

RED TAG or EXPEDITE TAG on totes

Talking with Bill strong - he says recently they have been trying to put all specials ( Montreal or St John - Keystone or Worldpac and similar items ) into ONE TOTE with a RED TAG or a EXPEDITE TAG ... has this been working ?

Bill will be on a conference call with our managers on Monday Sept 12 at 4:00 pm ... at that time we want to review shipping accuracy ... keep good notes ...

E-Cat --the problems have only started .... X line rotors

A recap --we had originally use CQ-Foster for rotors in XRA and life was fine - then we got cute and thought we could clone CQ-Aimco and also show SD series of cross drilled ... then that crashed when we were refused the ability to do that ( political reason ) ...so we are looking for a home --and they suggested NEWTEK ..but that also added Pads - that junked up our listings ... someone in Raleigh switched us to QUALIS --and at first look seemed OK - but I think there are MANY HOLES in QUALIS listings ( or more dirty political tricks? ) ... see the example 2004 Chev Blazer with NO XRA showing -- but trust me -- they exist - they just don;t show up on e-cat ...yep ...WTF says it about right -- watch and THINK ... more details to come

Remember if you have an Aimco part # ( we use ) --try XRA and SD prefix for the pricing.....

Chronic problem - Improvements are TOO SLOW in coming ...

Here is a good example of a SMALL PROBLEM that should be cleaned up -- April 2010 request for automated deletion of orders MORE than 60 days old --click here--

So we are approaching 18 months since this problem was spotted by us ... and remember we were one of the last jobbers to adopt Exploris ... so this was probably mentioned for years prior ?

Problem - if stores do NOT delete these old orders - then the system will NOT re-order the part .... since the warehouse ADIS computer system deletes their side of the order at 60 days .... make sure you understand this -- holding this order ENSURES you do NOT GET the part ... once the DC ADIS is flushed --it is important to RE-ORDER

Jobbers seems pretty poor at doing repetitive tasks ...and this is something that the computer should be set to automatically -- everyday ....

WHY does EXPLORIS ( Whi NexPart ) take so long to adapt and improve??????

Call # 1801422 --when will this improvement arrive .....

time to CLEAN UP your JUNK ??

Rhonda reminds you that year end is fast approaching --and as such --if you are going to clean up your junk -- do so in AUGUST --so we have enough time to get the credits back by the end of Sept .... do NOT retunn your junk in Sept --especially from Sept 12 and on

Clean up is calling ....

E-Cat tips & tricks - Rotor Spec's .... in Gen-2

at the recent staff meeting one member wished we had the spec's showing for rotors like he 'was used to in Activant' at the bottom of the e-cat page ... a couple of others quickly commented that the IMAGE has the spec's -- see pictures attached to this post .... If you find an image ( or a bunch of images ) required -- e-mail details to ED(dot)ROMANOSKI(at)GPI(dot)COM ( you post an e-mail name like this so spammers don;t harvest the e-mail and sends 100's of junk e-mails

E-Cat tips & Tricks - WALKER EXHAUST ( for Canada )

Recent staff meeting went around the table asking for question-problems-tips -- here is one for Exhaust Diagrams ... at our stores we have had PC's even with J-Con --so our staff are well familiar to going Walkers Web Site -- but there is an EASIER WAY with the Gen-2 E-Cat ... click on the Image button as shown at the TOP of the Exhaust page ...

---
Sure - old habits are hard to kick .... just a reminder .... especially if anyone remembers the images were at one point incorrectly linked to the USA side exhaust s
upplier - but ask and we get things fixed...

Just HOW SLOW is your MASTER TERMINAL - really ?

Have started a file on the problems with the terminal that is our MASTER TERMINAL and the slowdowns associated with this. in 3 stores we have 2 that a specific staff member use and these staff REALLY are annoyed on the pauses and slow down associated with their terminals.

Sometimes it is a web-link order being processed thru the internet - but other times we are just not sure what is causing the delays.

A couple of calls and e-mails and we are still awaiting some idea if there will be any solution in our lifetime. The problem is - the master terminal should NOT be showed in some back corner - it should have a set of eyeballs looking at it to ensure any problem gets handled in a timely manner = it s just that no one wants this as their work station.

Options & Ideas ??

Auto Sense INDUSTRIAL Cat - prices updated

A 3 month price update has been done form data received from Auto Sense for all parts in the INDUSTRIAL CATALOGUE. This file was uploaded by Greg using the new DFIU utility ( give it a C- for grade ). The image shows a part that is REPLACED .... we set all REPLACED BY parts to one penny ( .01 ) -- also notice the replaced by line and part # in the image.

ONE problem we have is that AS didn't include the NEW PART doing the replacing ... on a separate line ...we wrote them and they said they will do in future releases .... so you might find the NEW part number is NOT in our system - a low chance - but we want to mention it .... ps the example shown IS in our system as BOTH numbers were part of original catalogue.

Whoops -- new E-Cat drops all X line settings

Somehow all X line settings in our new E-Cat have been lost around the time of the Activant e-cat drop.

We are in contact to get his fixed. Been told by one other USA jobber that they also lost their X lines - so the line up to get this fixed might be pretty long. Please bear with us.

One point - the X line rotors seems to be fixed ( this was FIRST on our list ) but in the process we got 'borrowed line (Newtek) data for pads & shoes accidentally turned on ...we are trying to get this turned off - as the excessive data doesn't help anyone.

We are awaiting the following to be turned back on:
Primary Page
XRC - Raybestos struts

Secondary Page
XAP - IAP Dura rotors from Auto Sense
XIB - Ideal Brake from AS
XRB - Raybestos from AS
XKF - SKF CR Bearings from AS ( note - Ryan has LINKED with Alternates some data - so this shows in Primary
XLF - Luberfiner from AS
XTP - ATF Tranny filter kits from AS
and last
XKN - K&N Filters from AS ( while we wait for CQ to figure out the problem for their e-cat - we told then 2 years ago the stocking arts in the DC do NOT have the prefix and show properly - but the vast majority has the Keystone K33 prefix and therefore do NOT match ..... dumb - I know.

Hoping for fix for all soon ....
Greg H
